Hillary 2012 Week 4 Notices |
|
Monday, 06 February 2012 |
Hello all
Week 4 already! Well done to those who shot at Derby yesterday - 4th/8th overall, meaning the experienced team is still placed 2nd in the league. The novice team also did well, coming 5th. We brought back a good haul of medals too: Eleonore with gold and Yurika with silver in the ladies novice category, Gary with brinze in gents novice, Ben Glover with Gold in compound, Angelina with bronze in ladies experienced recurve, and myself with silver and Jess with bronze in Gents experienced. All this despite the minibus breaking down on the way, and a very slow treck down the M1 in snow/wind/fog/ice on the way home!
1-*Session times* 2-*Annual Dinner* 3- *Buddy system* 4-*Dates for your diary*
1-*Session times*
Sunday 5-7:30pm Hall Monday 10:30am-12 Hall Tuesday 1-4:30pm Hall * (2pm start for beginners) Thurdsay 2-4:30pm Hall * Friday 7-8:30am Hall *
As I mentioned last week, we are no longer taking any new absolute beginners.
2-*Annual dinner* Highlight of the year!! This fantastic event is an absolute must. It will be on Saturday 3rd march, at St Cross college. Please RSVP to to Jack Sobey (jack.sobey[at]btinternet.com) ASAP but by the 22nd of February at the very latest. Partners or Guests are very welcome. The meal will cost £45 (cheques to be made payable to OUCofA) and will be a black tie event.
3-*Nottingham BUTTS* - Saturday 25th Feb (sat 6th week) Please email me if you are experienced, and Lauren (lauren.hicks[at]bnc.ox.ac.uk) if you are a novice if you wish to come. Even if you haven't shot at a competition before, that's even more reason to put your name down, we will try and take as many people as possible.
4-*BUTTS Championships / BUTTS ball* - Saturday 17th March, sat of 9th week This is the final match of the season, and all of the teams in the BUTTS league will be there. Unfortunately it clashes with our indoor tournament (OUIT), but our wonderful alumni have agreed to run OUIT on the saturday, leaving us students to run it on Sunday. If you would like to come to BUTTS on the Saturday, please email me for experienced, and Lauren for novices. You will still be able to shoot at OUIT, if you sign up for the sunday sessions. Because thsi is out of term time Following on from the BUTTS champs, there is the annual BUTTS ball. This is a black tie event, with a meal followed by a disco and costs £27.50. in past years we all went and it was great fun! If you are interested in staying on fo rthe Ball let me know - there are some alumni going for definite, who would be able to help with transport back to Oxford afterwards.
4-*Scores* For those of you who like to go to competitions, and those who would but haven't yet, i would strongly encourage you to keep submitting scores to myself if you are an experienced archer, or Lauren if you are novice. This is so we can make a better decision when it comes to picking teams, so that we can pick a strong team but also give as many people a chance as possible. Ideally a Portsmouth score a week would be good!
5-*Dates for your diary*- just a reminder of what's coming up. Varsity date is still tbc, but 99% sure it will be 12th May so keep that day free!
Derby BUTTS sat 4th (team selected) BUCS (uni nationals) 18th feb (team selected); Nottingham BUTTS 25th feb - please email me/Lauren (novices) if you want to come; BUTC (head-to-head) 10th march - experienced only, contact me; Annual dinner 3rd march; BUTTS championships/BUTTS ball 17th march - Loughborough - please email me/Lauren (novices) if you want to come; OUIT (Oxford uni Indoor tournament 17th/18th March, at Iffley) Email Richard Morris ([at]univ.ox.ac.uk). Open to everyone!
Varsity (in cambridge) - 12th may. team selection will be ages off yet, and down to my successor!
I will send reminders about each of these nearer the time, but thought a full list might be useful
Have a good week,
Matt

Hello all
First week already! Hope those of you who had collections survived, and as a reward you get to read one of my wonderful emails.... If you are a novice and haven't transfered to the main mailing list please do so, thsi is the last week I will use it.
1-*Session times* 2-*League match* 3-*Club ladder* 4-*Derby BUTTS* 5-*Stash order arrived*
1-*Session times*
Sunday 5-7:30pm Hall Monday 10am-12 Hall Tuesday 1-4:30pm Hall * Thurdsay 2-4:30pm Hall * Friday 7-8:30pm Hall * *If you are a beginner and starting archery this term, please come to one / all of the tues, thurs and fri sessions
To those of you who are experienced archers, or those who started last term - we will be having some complete beginners starting this term: it won't be quite as structured as last term, but please help out with coaching them. Lauren will update the regular coaches on the weekly plan, and will tell all the novices about the coaching plan for them this term shortly.
2-*League match* Next sunday (22nd, sunday of 2nd) - Windrush archers are coming to us for the next leg of the county league. It will take place during the usual session (which will run as normal for those not competing). If you would like to shoot please email me by thursday.
3-*Club ladder* The club ladder will go live later today. If you are not on the ladder and want to be let me know. The rules are on the website, but in summary: shoot 12 arrows at a portsmouth face, you can challenge anyone above you. One arrow shoot-offs are employed if there is a draw. If you win, you take their place, and they and everyone else drops down one place. If the higher ranked archer wins, there is no change. This is a really fun way of making training a little more exciting, and only takes 4 ends (or 2 if you are shooting in 6s) so do get involved. Email me the results (archers and scores), and the ladder will be updated every weekend.
4-*Derby BUTTS* 4th February -experienced archers: please let me know if you want to come. Novices email Lauren (

5-*Stash order arrived* Exactly as it says on the tin. Please ask a committee member at a session.
